Taipower constructed the largest solar PV power plant in Taiwan-Chang-bin Solar PV Power Plant in early 2018, the total installed capacity of which is 100MW (10 KW). Its first kwh of electricity was generated today (20181022) at 12:04pm and 14MW of its capacity was integrated with national grid. Taipower pointed out that the construction of the whole solar PV power plant is expected to be completed in February 2019. Its annual electricity output- 130 million kwh green power electricity shall supply power for more than 30,000 households for their energy consumption throughout the year.

Taipower stated that the sunshine hours in Changhua is the longest in Taiwan. In order to fully utilize the solar power endowments in Changhua, Taipower invested NT$6.2 billion to build a solar PV power plant with an area of 140 hectares in the Lunwei District of Changhua Coastal Park, which is the largest power generation scale for a single solar power plant in Taiwan. Around 1,000 employees of Chunghwa Telecom were engaged in the construction of this project, and the construction period was the shortest ever in Taiwan. It is also a precedent in Taiwan's solar PV power practice for using 161,000 volts system to integrate with national grid. The system is also equipped with the function of intelligent deployment for circuit protection and remote electricity production control as well as equipment for energy storage, which makes it become a first renewable-energy power plant with both energy storing and energy harvesting functions.
